  • Did You Know? – we’ve dug around and discovered some amazing facts about our amazing county
  • Suffolk Walking Festival Video Shorts -we’ve been busy with our cameras, camcorders and smart phones to make some fascinating and entertaining video shorts about Suffolk
  • The Daily Audio – tune in to a short audio all about walking, from trying Nordic Walking for the very first time to writing a Haiku poem about the countryside!
  • Enter our competition – the lucky prize winner will get four tickets to next year’s Suffolk Walking Festival and an annual subscription to the Suffolk Magazine

Plus “SoundBombs”, a ‘Mindfulness Minute’ and a ‘Where Am I Today?’ daily quiz.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be adding more to the programme so keep checking the website for latest details.

The VIRTUAL Suffolk Walking Festival – when and where?

The 2021 VIRTUAL Suffolk Walking Festival will span 10 days from Saturday 22nd to Monday 31st May.

The full programme will be hosted on the Suffolk Walking Festival website.

Each day there will be new features including a new walk of the day, new videos and audios, and new quizzes, all to offer suggestions and inspiration to discover Suffolk on foot over the spring and summer.

New Walking Festival Website launched

A brand new Suffolk Walking Festival website launched on Wednesday 7 April with a fresh look and more interaction. The website will initially focus on the Virtual Festival programme but after May we’ll be updating it throughout the year with walking news and articles to make the festival a year-round celebration of walking in Suffolk.

Thank you

Thank you to our partners, walk leaders and walkers who have made videos, recorded audios and written about their favourite walks for the 2021 VIRTUAL Suffolk Walking Festival!

January newsletter to festival followers

Dear Walkers

We hope you are all keeping very well and staying healthy.

We have taken the decision to cancel this year’s Suffolk Walking Festival.

Plans for the 2021 festival had begun in October last year, with walk ideas gathered from our many walk leaders. In early December finishing touches were made to the walk programme with over 80 walks and events spread across the county. However, we wanted to assess the situation in the New Year before committing to delivering the event, which proved a prudent thing to do.

It is now not possible to continue with plans for May with uncertainly over what conditions will be in the spring.

We hope you understand this decision and we very much look forward to seeing you at the 2022 Suffolk Walking Festival.

2021 VIRTUAL Suffolk Walking Festival

There has been a real growth in walking over the past year. You may have shared our experience of seeing many more people using their local public rights of way and exploring and discovering footpaths that have probably never seen so many boot prints!

We are also acutely aware of the importance of the outdoors and the impact the natural environment has on our physical health and our mental wellbeing. A good walk outdoors feels good, even in the middle of winter!

Because of this we are looking at delivering a VIRTUAL Suffolk Walking Festival in May. We know it won’t be the same as being on a guided walk, of learning something new or discovering a new place, or indeed the joy of walking and talking with new friends, but we’ll bring you lots of inspiration for enjoying Suffolk’s countryside over the spring and summer.

We’ll be in touch again soon

Once we have more details on this year’s VIRTUAL Suffolk Walking Festival we’ll be in touch again. We’re already chatting to walk leaders, friends and colleagues about guest walk suggestions, a walk of the day feature, podcasts, videos and audios plus much, much more.

If you would like to be involved in the 2021 VIRTUAL Suffolk Walking Festival, perhaps sharing your own favourite walk in Suffolk, then we would love to hear from you. Simply email us at Discover.Suffolk@suffolk.gov.uk
