Walking Festival launch 2019

Happy New Year!

The Walking Festival team have been heads down since returning after the Christmas break planning this year’s Suffolk Walking Festival with an exciting new programme.

The festival launches on Saturday 13th May and spans 2 weeks with over 70 walks.

Launch day will be held in the beautiful Thornham Estate with a discovery tour of the estate’s natural history; a tasty stroll foraging the estate’s woodlands; a step back in time along a 900-year old Drove Road; and a night exploration of hoots, heavens and things that glow!

The 2-week festival programme offers walks in every corner of Suffolk: seek out otters in the Blyth Valley; join archaeologists on a journey into Suffolk’s very own Valley of the Kings; and learn the ancient tradition of ‘Beating the Bounds’.

There are walks about Suffolk poets, artists and writers; we celebrate Rogation Day in Bury St Edmunds; and experience the Japanese practice of Forest Bathing!

We look forward to seeing you at the 2023 Suffolk Walking Festival!

Saturday 13th May – Sunday 28th May 2023

The Challenge Walk is Back!

After a 3 year gap we are delighted to see the Challenge Walk return and have partnered up with Sudbury Ramblers and Clare Walkers to follow a brand new long distance trail.

The Wool Towns Walk, created by Sudbury Ramblers and Clare Walkers, celebrates the stunning medieval towns of south Suffolk.

Over 4 days we’ll trek between Clare, Sudbury, Hadleigh, Kersey, Lavenham, Long Melford and Cavendish. Each day is a linear walk with transport provided. There will be some guest speakers along the way, visits to historic churches, and the odd refreshment too!

And for everyone who completes the full 4-day challenge there will be prizes and gifts at an end-of-walk celebration cream tea in Clare Country Park!
